the slovakian techno label numb showcases another great release by the dutch rising stars museum. this is another fine colabboration by anton pieete (also responsibles for the highly anticipated numb 011) and jeroen liebregts known from his other projects called radial and his own labels audio assault and dinner to name just a few. this release is just what you would expect from these serious beats lovers! clean as yo mommy s kitchen and sharp as a razor! watch these guys grow and grow and feel why they are so big right now and got signed on major labels like drumcode!

whats the secret of making a dance floor explode? if youd like to learn just open christian burkhardts contemporary box and look whats inside: at a first glance, it seems that it doesnt contain a lot, except for 3 dance tools. but once on the turntable you may discover the whole secret of this release. what seems to be so simple is a complex construct of percussive elements and basslines that are being arranged just in the right way. contemporary box finds it s peak without even having one, just by grooving on and on, monotonously, with jumping sticks and a pushing bassline. maison noir moves a little more to the housier side and is being carried by warm chords as well as by effective percussions. phey boom brings in a certain coolness and carries that great release home

konk is the eagerly awaited new album from the kooks. it is their second album, and the follow up to their hugely successful 2006 debut inside in/inside out which sold some two million copies worldwide and spawned the massive singles she moves in her own way, you dont love me, sofa song, eddies gun, ooh la and na ve. konk was recorded over a six week period at the tail end of 2007 in ray davieskonk studios in north london, plus a week at los angelessound factory. the sessions once again united the group with esteemed producer tony hoffer (beck / air/the fratellis). konk features 12 tracks. theres gap which is classic kooks, and shine on which finds luke exploring hitherto unchartered lyrical territory over the loveliest of melodies. its destined to become another lynchpin in the kooks live set. first single always where i need to be is a tumbling rocker with a do do do, do do do do refrain that might just be the catchiest thing they ve ever done. sway and mr maker are other album highlights.

yore returns with a true dream team split ep, pairing yore label head andy vaz with sistrum manager patrice scott. vaz is up first with a beautiful slice of old-school funk and soul within a deep house formula, >back to square one< that has a whole lot more in common with isaac hayes and james brown than with juan atkins or any other techno icon. accompanied by a wah-wah guitar figure and claps, a bullet-proof bass line leads a nine-minute charge thats quickly bolstered by a slinkily swinging drum groove. creamy synth chords and blazing horns intermittently spill over the pulsating mix and then vanish, leaving space for the rhythm to intensify and the track to grow ever more euphoric (and even, towards its close, a bit acidy). a true mission into both funk and house, which again showcases vazs ultimate diversity as an outstanding producer. scott titled his second sistrum release beyond deep and the title might just as easily apply to the b-side >aztecal< where the detroit producer slathers shimmering stabs and congealing streams over a thudding kick drum and flickering percussive detail. while vazs cut draws inspiration from the timeless traditions of decades past, scotts looks towards the future when its gleaming shuttle lifts off in pursuit of distant galaxies.

bangkok impact returns just before the summer with 2 great tunes. la musche is a masculine disco monster that kicks ass! a 8 minute monster that has powerfull basslines making the room explode when being dropped at the right moment. will be big with all the fans of rekids, prins thomas and lindstrom. b-side is used for a track called caro (coming in two versions.. original & disco version). a perfect summer hymne that will make people smile when its being dropped at the main stage at the summer festivals.

let me love you is a classic from sierra leonean soca star bunny mac. having now being remixed by the heavyweight of house music it drops just in time for the summer on defected.

same script as with previous control voltage releases, 2 x 303, 1 x 808, 1 x 909, 2 x blokes on dial and desk duty and this time guest starring a linn lm2 for that fearsome descending snare sound. this one is a big analogue party tune that just keeps on going and is sure to put a wonky grin on a bunch of sweaty faces on a dancefloor near you this summer. also, contrary to a number of reports from a few internet record dealers who seem hell-bent on driving up the price of the first 2 control voltage 12s, they are not quite sold out a source, we havent got many left but there are a few remaining for anyone that needs them

if top of the range minimalism with a side order of funk included is what floats your boat then this new ep could well be just the job. the inner and outer space ep follows hot on the heels of the two well received previous releases the hokarangen space project ep and diamondtrack. innocence features the menacing vocals of lucien etori to deliver a minimalist epic, if thats possible. certainly minimalism plus menace equals one damn fine track.

after the extremely successful filmmusik ep on rompecabeza, holgi star is back with >not for me<. the ep consists of two tracks with technoid crossover potential! on >not for me< bits of african vocals meet functional techno and seamlessly weave together into a quite sexy and rather danceable number. all the while >dont feel it< coolly, calmly, and with just enough repetition, establishes its class and style without unneeded flourishes. both tracks were extensively tested by the rompe crew at sonar 2008 in barcelona, and reactions spoke of the potential both of the artist and the ep itself!!!

enjoying success earlier this year on splank! with organ dementia/restless, groove allegiance have also recently remixed torpedo boys the disco song for lounge records and break the boxs ghostlicker for ground level. this latest number super squelch has already been doing the business at recent groove allegiance gigs, the title giving plenty away, as wonky lfo noises provide the fills, whilst stomping beats and a twisted electro hook provide the solid dancefloor groove. canadian stalwart macca, head honcho of invasive records, turns up to provide the remix. catching the eye of splank! with his recent remixes of dj dans chop shop (instereo) and robb g & the phat conductors heavy, the macca sound has a hint of breakbeat mixed with a big room electro flavour, and with this remix he stays true to his word. the beats are tight, the fills and edits feel quite breaky, and the hook is hypnotic. this ones perfect for the big arena & just in time for festival season.

karateklub suprises with hugh tracks from jenn, fantastically remixed by rebekah (criminal/uk). with >cheeky<, jenn presents a groovy and much more minimal side then we allready heard on her last ep. suprising and reduced, her sounds looping up and down, embedded in a clonky basedrum structure. the remix, made by rebekah, well known from her releases on criminal records, is just fantastic and completes the ep brilliantly. she desinged a hugh groove and pushed it forward. by adding her ideas she creates an excellent new track. the interface original is specified by stomping and jigging beats, which get intermitted by smooth voices and melodies, before pushing it up again. these girls have it and paint the town red!

karolin müller is the first female artist in the hi freaks family and blinky is her long awaited first release. blinky starts with a subversive retro groove, the loop is driven by a flanged hihat and ends up in a funny, funky break, where the theme hits the track and pushes it too the next level. our swedish pac man agaric eats >blinky< alive and gives him a very rough and hypnotic treatment with his remix on the b-side. snake, rattle n roll: the title is just perfect to caracterise this track, imagine a snake winding through a synthesiser modulating itsself over and over again, sounds weired... thats what it is ... a great uncommon halucinating track�

the legendary club u60311 in frankfurt has opened up a brand-new hotspot for minimal right in the heart of the city, going by the name of 311. paired with this, an affiliated label - dreielf recordings - has also been launched. the residents michael kohlbecker, one part of the saafi brothers, and frankfurts newcomer peter eilmes are releasing the fruits of their cooperation in their home studio, and putting an already-established scene hit onto vinyl with - tabasco. the original of the record impresses with its anthemic character, which may have been due to the fat bass-line and the striking trumpet. despite its monotony, a real jewel for every record case and just the stuff to get happiness dripping from the club ceiling. the remix by alexi delano, on the other hand, is somewhat deeper and more melodic at the same time, but still contains all the ingredients necessary for a proper shot of tabasco. sonic monogamy or fat kick basses make this remix unique. the dominant trumpet and the scraping percussion of the berliner andre crom make this remix an absolute guarantee of ecstasy. tabasco is hot and burns like hell!

after his airwalk/overrun 12-inch, henrik b obviously felt like dropping something more noisy and pounding. his remix of >let it drop< by dj delicious is just that. with the usual thick and somewhat trancey synth sounds always coming from the leading producers in sweden recently, it fits perfectly in any kind of driving electro set. includes john dahlback s huggotron remix
